OMG the heat warnings for Oregon and Washington. 110F/43C. 

When air conditioners were new there were warnings every summer about the dangers of heat. We were to go to malls or movies and check on our older neighbors. Humidity makes wooden windows swell and become impossible to open. It is harder to regulate your temperature as you get older. Every year people died. Please be careful. 

I asked my historian friend if any war had ended because the soldiers refused to continue fighting. WWI was incredibly awful. Commanders were stupid and sent men in to fight in ways guaranteed to get them slaughtered. Russia had a minuscule industrial base and sent millions of men to fight but often with no guns, no shells, no boots. Over the course of the war Russia had the highest level of desertion and surrender of any combatants. After 2.5 years the army basically gave up and left. "They had no equipment, no food, no supplies, and were fighting for a system in which they had no investment.  So .... they quit." 


In WW1 Russia had about 2 million more soldiers than they had rifles and very few doctors. 


The American estimates for Russian casualties are 15,000. The American estimates for wounded are 44,000. 


A UK intelligence report says Russia is likely struggling to extract and repair thousands of military vehicles. 


Ukraine shot down a $16 million Russian combat helicopter. The Ka-52 is considered one of Russia's most powerful helicopters. The Ukrainians downed another one in late June.
