Maggie Beer’s Kitchen
Mauzee and I made a “Bee Line” this morning to visit the iconic Maggie Beers Farm Shop in Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley. We were keen to beat the big crowds that would undoubtedly visit as it’s a very popular tourist destination. I think we were the third and fourth people through the door and it was a wonderful experience. Mauzee very kindly took an image of me in Maggie’s kitchen which was the scene of her (still incredibly popular) “Cook and the Chef” television series. I was astonished to learn that the last episode of the show was filmed 12 years ago. I have added an extra of Mauzee standing on the other side of the lake with the Farm Shop and Restaurant in the background. Oh and a message for Outdoorguy in the US - yes Tim I did end up with a new apron :)). Well of course I did!!
Tonight we are camped alongside the first hole of the golf course at Crystal Brook near Port Pirie. We had a very strong recommendation from 59 to stay in Crystal Brook and when the Overnight stay was full we decided to look for somewhere private. We’ve just discovered that we’re sitting on part of the Heysen Trail. We thought the trees down to the right of the hole looked pretty amazing :))
Tomorrow we’re off to Streaky Bay and a day will follow where we can catch our breath before embarking on the long, long drive across the Nullarbor to Western Australia. We’re hoping that the Southern Right Whales will be at the “Head of the Bight” and there calves will also be born. Fingers crossed because that will be amazing to see.
DAY 9
