Underfall Yard

Did the classic 'Bristol Harbour circular-walk' today - weather still pretty good and we thoroughly enjoyed taking our time looking at all the harbourside buildings ...

... we particularly liked "Underfall Yard" (as pictured), which is an historic boatyard, relatively recently restored in the 1990s, and which has since been designated as a scheduled monument.

I've also put up an extra of Underfall Yard's former pump room, which was latterly refurbished in 2015.

Originally, Underfall Yard was commonly referred to as "The Underfalls" and took its name from the underfall sluices. The original construction was completed in 1809 under the direction of William Jessop and substantially improved by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in the 1830s.

Today, the yard and much of its equipment are now operational once again, and house a number of (active) maritime-related companies.
