The old neglected rose comes to life

For the first time in ages I've paid attention to this rose which has languished in a large pot near the patio for too many years. I didn't feed it and often it missed out on being watered, let alone fed.

Earlier this year I pruned back some of it, in trepidation as I'm never sure how and when to prune roses. It started to produce a couple of flower buds a couple of months ago, but they weren't strong blooms. Following regular near daily watering lately I've noticed that it has produced strong new shoots with many sets of buds.

Today I noticed these flowers looking lovely and smelling beautiful. I'm going to be good to it in future.
