A bit different this year

Normally when  the field opposite the house grows corn its a sight to give pleasure, wonderful colour, waving in the sunshine.
After the wild fires this year, including one in Ashill that destroyed 6 houses, I have been looking at the field as a fire hazard. It has been so little rain everything is tinder dry and the wind, that had been quite strong in the last few days, blows straight over the field onto my home.
The harvest is now complete but there is now a field of stubble, just as inflammable but less to burn.
The garden currently is doing an impression of the Gobi Desert, crunchy grass is not a good thing. We desperately need rain, not a scattered shower but a good prolonged gentle downpour over several days.
