Fogfruit

Fogfruit Phyla nodiflora, sometimes called 'Frogfruit, Turkey Tangle,  Matchhead, Carpetweed or Capeweed', is a native Florida ground cover. It grows very close to the ground and sends up these sweet little flowers. My earliest memories of this plant date back to my pre-teens when my Nana would send me out into the yard to ''pull up creeping charlie'', as she called it. This think that may have been a memory of her's from 'up North'.  Now I welcome it!  Fogfruit is favorite nectar source for bees and small butterflies. It is also the larval host for at least three of our native butterflies. In the *extras...'In Your Face', Eastern PondHawk dragonfly and 'Heavy Lifting' ant transporting something 'tasty no doubt' back to the colony.
