Lammas Approaches

The fields are full of golden headed (if somewhat shorter than of yore) wheat, or are already stripped and the straw bales tied in rolls or blocks. It's almost time for the bread harvest, first of the three traditional harvests of which the other two are Mabon (fruit) and Samhain (souls).

My family tree is full of agricultural labourers, but the nearest I get to the harvest is eating the bread once Janet's baked it! It was lovely, though, to take Morrigan out for a short spin in preparation for a longer ride next week. Tyre pressures, check. Oil and coolant, check. Fuel topped off and, my word, it was almost 'normal' price!

Sad to hear of two passings today despite their very good ages: James Lovelock, who inspired my spiritual development through his oft-misunderstood Gaia hypothesis although he himself was a lapsed Quaker, and Bernard Cribbins who entertained me through Wombles, hole-digging and Dr Who.

No fear of their names being lost any time soon and what is remembered, lives. /|\
