I photographed these boats not long ago. A beautiful view with swans & the water a few inches from the top. (See extra).
As you can see from the jaunty angles of the boat on the left, the larger boats masts, and the high exposed banks, a lot has changed.
Fiddlers Ferry power station has been closed for a while & they recently turned off the pumps that controlled the cooling water. It turns out that was all that was keeping the canal topped up.
The latest estimate I saw to restore the canal was £100m. So that’s probably the end of an era.
