Went over to Wareham today with the intention of a riverside walk. We had tried this walk before, in the winter, but the mud had turned us back. Today the path was so overgrown we decided not to struggle down it! Instead we walked Wareham Walls - earth mounds surrounding the town built in Saxon times to defend the town from Viking attacks. The photo is inside St.Martin-on-the -walls church. It’s an Anglo Saxon church founded by St Aldhelm in the 7th century. The present building dates from 1030 and this paintwork was painted dating from the 12th century. To see things like this, all open to the public blows my mind a bit!
