Training Day

I finally worked out how to use the local bus app. There are buses into Cheltenham every 15 minutes. I took the bus today for a training session to up skill my voluntary work. It was an excellent three hour session.

In the evening we watched the opening ceremony of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. They did really well to put on such a spectacle at relatively short notice when Durban, sadly, had pull out of hosting.

In Edinburgh in 1986 I was a volunteer at those Games. I was allocated to VIP driving initially but it was not very well organised and we sat in a portacabin all day on the south side of the city. An audit of our driving skills was taken and some of us had minibus driving permits. I was soon embedded with the Canadian team transporting them from the Games village at Polllock Halls to Meadowbank.

On one run I took a full minibus load of male weightlifters to Meadowbank. The van’s suspension made some very ominous sounds as I turned onto the London Road.

On another trip I took a full minibus of female synchro swimmers to their training pool at Rosyth. I gave them a commentary on the sights as we headed over the Forth. They kindly invited me to watch their routine in rehearsal It was highly impressive. On this, trip needless to say, the minibus had no issues with its suspension!
