Progress

Our downtown is undergoing a transformation. Until recently we managed to hold on to a unique hodge podge of old buildings. You can still see the liquor store on this close corner, a taqueria, the false front of an old house that holds a retro clothing store. What they are building is a multi-story mixed-use monstrosity unlike anything nearby, although plans are afoot to duplicate it in the next block, and the next. All the correct buzzwords: affordable housing, multi-use, commercial on the ground level, residential above. There are vacant storefronts all along the main street, because it is not pleasant to go downtown any more. I find it hard to imagine that this toad of a building will make anything better.
