otsutomehin
otsutomehin refers to items that are offered at a bargain price, such as unsold ready-to-eat food from a supermarket with a 1-day shelf life at the end of the day. which is what these are. and there's also bargain price for bread and meat that's approaching the end of its shelf life.
our local supermarket do the final mark down prices around 9pm. i think there are like two rounds of mark down. the first round discounts the food by 20%, and the final round is 30-40%, depending on the food. usually you have to get there at exactly 9pm to get the big meal or the good food. at bigger supermarkets, it feels like a battlefield because there is a swarm of people hover around the food area. there is a Japanese show about this, and i feel like i live it everyday.
otsutomehin are awesome for the broke start-ups like myself.
