Fossilised forest at Takapuna

We’ve been to Takapuna lots of times and taken photos of Rangitoto island( in the background). We hadn’t realised that the black rocks were actually the fossilised remains of a Kauri forest caused by a volcanic eruption.  The crater is filled with water and called Lake Pukuke.
