Lava Plateau

Many of the hills of Central Scotland are lava plateaux for example Campsies, Ochils, Pentlands and as in this snap the Kilpatricks north of the river Clyfe. The hills are composed mainly of basalt which has been extruded in horizontal layers and as seen here erosion has exposed several layers giving a series of rocky ledges
