Durlston Country Park Nature Reserve and Castle
By the time we reached farther south on our butterfly trip, the sky had clouded over, and the temperature had cooled significantly. Thank goodness! It had been far too hot for me.
In addition to visiting Durlston Country Park, which is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, we went to RSPB Arne and to Ballard Down.
Butterflies seen:
Small skippers
Ludlow skippers
Essex skippers
Graylings
Gatekeepers
Marbled whites
In the evening we visited Great Ovens. It was very exciting to hear and see Nightjars. Nightjars are strange nocturnal medium-sized birds. They make an eerie churring sound.
