Evening Ride
A nice evening.Took the Moto Guzzi for a meander around the lanes.Very close encounter with a driver who completely failed to see me at a crossroads.
Thought I had it covered.Driver coming from the left had a restricted view due to a badly positioned diversion sign so I had slowed significantly and adjusted my road position to be more visible.I was also applying light braking just in case.
The driver coming from the right was stopped and had a completely unobstructed view of oncoming traffic (me)and pulled out.Sounding my horn realised their mistake and darted into the right hand lane as I passed in the left.Applying a little braking saved me valuable time and space.
Nearly an accident due to poor observation. We know when we ride that we are invisible despite the lights being on and I wear high vis vest.Drivers always assume we are speeding and have come out of nowhere because they glance but fail to look.
What can be done to raise the standards of the car driving public?A test or training day every five years?Perhaps. For nine out of ten drivers the last training was just before passing their test however many years ago that was but as we all know everyone is a good driver it is everyone else.
First rule of motorcycling:- DON'T _ _ _ _ ING DIE!
In the picture is the Leeds to Liverpool canal taken while exploring the back lanes.I took the road less travelled and that has made all the difference.
