Grey Heron

The young one flew to the gate to meet me this morning. She was quickly joined by the older female. I started giving the young one pollock and the older female sardine.  I soon realised the young one was happy with both the pollock and the sardine. I was aware that someone was watching and when the two heron flew back to the loch, I turned and realised it was a lady who used to watch us a long time ago. She was speaking to me about how, when she was walking round the loch some days she had noticed the young one watching for me from the top of the dovecote. As we were chatting the young one flew back (she must have flown to the edge of the loch, been waiting for me to go over and got fed up waiting so came back) she was again joined by the older female. Luckily I had saved some fish for the male and the youngest one, although not so lucky for them as I just gave it to the young one and the older female. This afternoon the male and the youngest one got a their share as the morning two didn't appear.
