Losers!

I really dislike gambling, I have seen the damage it can do to people and families. When forced, by social pressures, to have a bit of a flutter, I usually lose as quick as possible and get out of the game. However, here in NZ it is almost impossible to attend a club meeting without a raffle taking place. No social harm seems to result and the prizes seem pretty regularly to be packs of meat and bottles of wine. One could argue that they are both damaging in their own way, but nobody seems to worry much. All the tickets here in the photo were losers but we would have accepted a prize if one of the bottles of wine was left. I guess I am mellowing a bit. Should I stand up for my principles and say “no”?
