Expert Engineers

Heading out from our front door this morning I noticed a small spider seemingly suspended in mid air. Moving around it and looking at it from the other side and towards the door, it was evidently building a large orb web secured between two hanging baskets either side of the door. It was fascinating watching it expertly spinning it’s web, tensing the silk laterals when required. I took quite a few photos. A Robert the Bruce moment.

This afternoon whilst doing some garden sorting I noticed a leaf cutter bee securing the “ door” of its cell nest in a bee hotel (extra). Neat semi circular incisions in the leaves of one of our roses show where the building materials have come from.
