Neskowin: Farewell to the coast
We drove north as far as Neskowin, another town that stands a testament to the inhumanity of the so-called "pioneers" who killed or abused the native people, violated their holy sites, and took the land without a moment's thought of what they were taking, or who it belonged to, or how to care for it. In this place, settlers built their houses with wood stolen from burial canoes built by native people, dumping the bones of the native ancestors on the sand.
Neskowin is also the location of a "ghost forest" made when a massive earthquake and tsunami struck around 2000 years ago. Video here, if you like.
As we were driving north, we got some bad news. One of Sue's nephews who we spent the week with tested positive for Covid Monday morning. We are vaxxed and boosted, so technically we don't need to isolate, but Sue is having symptoms and I'm heavy with fatigue, so we're in our separate homes, not seeing anyone till we know for sure. So far we are testing negative (thank you, Cailleach, for the extra tests), and I'm going for a PCR test at the hospital tomorrow morning.
All plans are on hold till we know more.
