New camera!

Tomorrow, Sunday 28th April, is the 2013 Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. This gives all pinhole fans the opportunity to take a pinhole photo and post it, so long as the photo was taken on the day (almost) anything goes.

Whilst I have my Noon and a couple of cameras that I made a few years ago I decided that I should make a new one. Luckily I had been given the above tin gift box for christmas and after the contents were removed the ideal candidate was found.

The construction method was to cut a hole in the centre of the lid, in this case the centre of the 'O' was spot on. A piece of shim was glued over the hole from the inside and the whole interior painted matt black. The shim was then drilled through its centre, 0.35mm diameter, and then carefully sanded with emery and checked until smooth and round! I marked the centre of the back and marked a 5"x7" rectangle around it, this will let me know where to tack a piece of photographic paper to get it central.
The hole was then covered with a piece of opaque tape to make a shutter!

The specifications of this camera are as follows,

Focal Length - 60mm
f-number - 171
sensor size - 5"x7"

Using photographic paper that has a nominal ISO of around 3, I should get an exposure time of approximately 1-2 minutes in bright sunlight to roughly 6-10 minutes on an overcast day!

Should I get a good image I shall post it here as tomorrows Blip, failing that I shall post another image made with a pinhole on the day.
