A Chiltern Gentian

We have been to the Chinnor Hill site of the Berkshire Buckinghamshire Oxford Wildlife Trust. We met the warden who was fencing off these plants on the  chalky hillside. These Chiltern Gentian are a nationally scarce species. 
One would expect them to be taller and more blue but the warden felt that the extreme dry weather has restricted their growth and colour.
