Shirts with a story

I've driven past this display of tie-dyed shirts several times, and today I finally stopped in and asked if I could take some photos. They're hung in front of a flooring store and I thought it was an interesting location. It was windy so the photos are a bit blurry. 
Got the scoop from the owner of the flooring store! Apparently his friend, the guy who makes the shirts, used to tour with The Grateful Dead, and according to the owner, they're "the real deal".  The guy now lives in Victoria and sells the shirts at a popular market there too. He has all kinds of lighting equipment, smoke machines, stage props. I'm gullible but I don't think the owner was kidding me. The shirts are certainly bright! There are tank tops, and short-sleeved and long-sleeved t-shirts. He's sold plenty of them and has just put in an order for more. I don't think I'll buy one. In my hippy days, I would have - but back then I might not have been able to afford one.  :-)
I googled to see if the Grateful Dead wore tie dyed shirts and found this: Granted, the Dead didn't invent tie-dye — the technique originated in India thousands of years ago. But the band's embrace ot the parti-hued look and the freewheeling lifestyle it represented in the 1960s certainly contributed to the popularity of the American style of tie-dye with its bold striations of bright color.
