Conor and the Gherkin
This is a good spot for taking photos of the Gherkin. One of the few that hasn't been blocked by all the other giant buildings that have gone up in the last few years. It's not the first time it has been a blip either. Dad blipped this whilst working there in 2013 just a few weeks before Conor was born.
We got the new Elizabeth Line (previously known as Crossrail) from Tottenham Court Road to Liverpool Street to get to the city. OMG it is infinitely better than the chugging sweatiness of the Central Line! Nice wide air conditioned passenger tunnels and wide, clean, cool carriages. Emerging from Liverpool Street for the first time with all the new giant buildings suddenly in view close up was pretty spectacular. Mum had been up early to meet a friend for breakfast and we met up with her beneath the Gherkin for a picnic lunch.
Next we visited the Bank of England Museum. (Quite an appropriate time to visit as interest rates went up by 0.5% in one go yesterday for the first time in 27 years!). Orla and Conor both did the question sheet provided. Orla went round with Dad and Conor with Mum. The knowledge should come in handy as I'm sure we will all hear quite a lot about inflation and interest rates over the next few months!
Then we got the DLR from Bank over to Canary Wharf. We got a bit lost as usual trying to find an appropriate place to have some dinner, eventually ending up in Pizza Pilgrims in West India Quay. Nice sitting outside in the (not too hot) sun and the pizzas were awesome.
We got the Elizabeth Line all the way back from Canary Wharf to the West End and it only took 15 minutes! Starting to realise it is a game changer for getting round London...
We had dessert/drinks sat outside (in Where Are The Pancakes) taking in the Friday evening atmosphere of Charlotte Street.
