Cruising the Crinan Canal

These yachts are making their way down to Ardrishaig where the Crinan Canal reaches its final destination. 15 locks in all and it can take up to a day to sail the 9 miles of canal.

Four large yachts in the lock is quite a tight squeeze. It’s fascinating to watch as the gates are closed and the water level slowly drops until it reaches the level of the canal. The lock gates are opened and in an orderly fashion the yachts continue on their way.
