Today's the day ................... to be blue

I'm so pleased with this lacecap hydrangea this year.

There must be upwards of twenty of these large, intricate - and very blue - flowers on it.  It looks very healthy now but it was not that way when we found it a few years back.  It was just a single stem, completely swamped by the surrounding bushes and looking very sorry for itself.  We pruned it back and moved it to a different part of the garden, with a bit of space around it for it to grow.  And that's exactly what it has done.

It's actually a bit of a treat for us to have a blue hydrangea at all.  Before we moved here, our soil was alkaline and our hydrangeas were pink.  And, I have to say, that I much prefer this almost luminous blue ....................
