Loft Artists Association

It's Open Studios at the LAA, possibly for the last time as the Association has been asked to leave the premises and no leases are being extended.

There was a great camaraderie in the LAA building today. All artists' doors were open, there was a buzz in the corridors, the sound of ambling footsteps , kids squeals and music coming from several different studios. I stayed with Paul Larson most of the day, a) to show my support and b) to try to work on some songs while he was painting.

Paul had his brush and I had my guitar, each of us applying our own strokes and finding our own discovery on our respective canvases. We also had a bloody good time just playing and singing. I did backing vocals on George Harrison's While My Guitar Gently Weeps whilst Paul played and sang.

It was also interesting how people came in, heard the guitar and would stop for a moment to listen. Some even engaged in discussion about the creative process. It was a delight to be able to tell them about the project on which Paul and I had collaborated earlier in the year.

Paul's work looked excellent. He'd worked most of the week moving things out of the studio to reduce clutter thus using the space as best as possible to create his own 'gallery'. And that he did.

It was a great day. I'm back there again tomorrow, starting at 10am. I need to do the remaining videos for five of his painting. The videos are 60-second bites of a given painting, with a voiceover from Paul and will perhaps include some music.
