Diane's Open Garden
Diane is one of our walking group. She has been out of action because she needed treatment for breast cancer. She has made an excellent recovery and today she opened her garden as part of the National Garden Scheme.
Her house and garden is on the Stanegate, a famous Roman road. It predates Hadrian's Wall and was built to link a number of important forts. Hadrian's Wall lies to the north of it.
This is a windy spot, but Diane has managed to create a wonderful garden here. Most is the formal and the vegetable sections. The beds are curved and look lovely.
Here she is in the area where she is creating both an orchard and a wild flower meadow. Yellow rattle seeds she planted this year have done very well and I hope that next year there will be many more plants.
The young apple trees are doing very well; the pears faring less well.
It was cold and drizzly this afternoon, but attendance seemed good. Not such good news was that Kay, who was going to be on the plant stall, has gone down with Covid.
Here, the other Marjorie came and we had an afternoon of lively chatter.
I just have one more sleep before my first B12 injection. Can't wait!!
