time and tide

The tide times meant that we had to leave Holy Isle early this morning. Breakfast at 7 and a final session at 8 left just enough time to wash the dishes, strip and remake the beds and hurry down to the jetty. The little ferry made two journeys across to Lamlash and I was on the second, so I waved off the first boatload and took this photo as they climbed aboard.

The sea doesn’t look rough here, but there was quite a swell and the ride was choppy. Then in Brodick we heard that a rope had become entangled in the propeller of the Caledonian Isles, so a diver was being sent down to free it. All the foot passengers were squeezed onto the smaller MV Arran. I spent the crossing on deck as the weather had improved. From Ardrossan we caught the train to Glasgow and enjoyed some interesting conversations. It was quite sad to leave my companions, even though we had only known each other for less than 48 hours.

I’m staying in Glasgow tonight and plan to see the Baz Lurhman film “Elvis”. I’ve been told to take tissues..
