Day 10 - Frankfurt, Dulles, Home - back blip
Before my Germany/Switzerland journal becomes history, I want to share what our breakfast buffets were like. Amazing. I stuck to fruit, breads and bacon, but for those with a broader palette, your choices were almost endless. We left the hotel an hour earlier than planned to get a jump on the expected crowds after yesterday’s Lufthansa strike. Just getting to the departure desk was a feat based on where our bus had to let us off. No problems with any of our bags so that was a positive. Getting through security was another matter. Twenty of us were taken out of line arbitrarily and put in another line upstairs. Once there, steps before it was our turn, the door would close and all “he..” would break out as folks pushed toward another security line. That happened three times. After hours, we finally got through the screening area and to our gate with plenty of time to spare. We waved goodbye to Europe as we ascended into the clouds. The plane ride was uneventful. We were able to monitor our trip on the monitors. I included a photo of our dinner, the same meal we had on the way over. The wait to get through customs was horrendous, over two hours crammed in line with thousands of other travelers. Other pilgrims had taken our bags off the carousel before we got there. It felt so good to be in the van headed home. We have wonderful memories to bring home; just need a few days of down time to recover. Thanks for dropping by. Hope your next flight isn’t quite so messy. “No man needs a vacation so much as the man who has just had one.” – Elbert Hubbard
