There has been a replacement toilet seat sitting behind a chair in the kitchen since May. The only reason for replacement in advance of a more thorough go at the bathroom was that the children were used to the soft-closing lid in the old house, but in the intervening months they've adjusted and not slammed the seat down at all recently. Following me eventually giving in and replacing it, there is now a house policy that whoever buys a toilet seat is responsible for fitting it, which should hopefully encourage the purchase of well-designed designs.
