Deruta

This morning I got a lift with #2 daughter and family to Deruta, a town about 15 minutes away, famous for majolica. It had been a centre for Etruscan pottery then in 15th century the knowledge of creating this colourful painted stuff found its way from Mallorca (hence the name). Phil’s choice of parking place was luckily at the bottom of these steps which led us to the old town. (I’d read about them but would have been unlikely to find them I think).

Being Sunday, the town was very quiet, so we enjoyed a stroll round the ceramic shops. I imagine when the tour buses come it will be different. I was sorely tempted by a bowl till I found it was €150! I remembered we don’t need stuff and should really be getting rid of clutter. #3 daughter found a very beautiful and different jug /vase in a more modern shop which Luke got for her birthday. (I got told off for taking photos but said I needed to consult with mio marito before I could buy). #2 and Phil are considering buying a table top and having it shipped home for the garden.

There was lovely singing going on in the church opposite the cafe where the children had gelato.

We got home for lunch but I didn’t get myself into the pool till after the lightening. The children were so excited as it was their first time to view it.

#2 daughter and Phil have gone out for a Michelin star dinner at Perugia. #3 daughter cooked for the children and I’m making linguine with pears, walnuts and Gorgonzola for #3, Luke and Mr C so I’d better get on with it
