The Gallows

The name of this pub in Milnrow Nr. Rochdale has always intrigued me - so I decided to Blip it and find out why it has such a macabre name.
It would appear it is said to occupy the site of an ancient execution site established by the Knights Hospitaller in 1253 .
Unfortunately the pub sign is quite faded and only shows a sketch of the gallows.
