The joy of swimming!
Red slide, yellow slide.
Whoosh and splash. Swimming delight.
Happy confidence.
First item: we slept better :-D Bedtime was a bit tricky.. but all is forgotten after a good night’s sleep!
Swimming was the entertainment today. There’s a pool that Ben goes to with school and they only open their slides at certain times, so although he knows the pool and changing rooms well, the slides are a massive novelty. We haven’t been since pre-pandemic times and (as always) I was supremely nervous about every aspect. Swimming is brilliant for Ben, in terms of movement, development, sensory input but also hugely over-stimulating (for some of the same reasons) We have had many dramas, in many pools. Oh, if changing rooms could talk… :-/ Still, this year I have confidence that he is managing things better and we gave it a go. I also had up my sleeve that he wants to go to another local pool that has not only slides but a wave machine and rapids… so I knew I had a ‘carrot’ for him showing me he could manage everything. Anyway.. he was brilliant. He swam, he queued for the slide, he followed all instructions and had a brilliant time. He took the red slide (which looked horribly fast) and I took the seemingly sedate, yellow slide… but still had to grip the walls to try to slow myself down :-D
The afternoon was really warm, there was some grumpiness, not just from Ben. I cleaned the bathrooms, tried to unblock a problem with our toilet (unsuccessfully) and tried to realign our PVC patio doors (unsuccesfully). Oh well, also made pesto and a cod pasta bake (15 year old's verdict is that tuna is better- can’t win them all!)
Photo is a happy Ben after his swim!
