Attingham
Not the best day for an outing as it has been another scorcher but it was good to be back at one of our favourite National Trust properties, Attingham Park, house and gardens. The house was reasonably cool but not as interesting as usual as so much restoration works are in progress. Les and Margaret* as cook and bottle washer in a very hot kitchen were the highlight, they had cooked little cakes and pies from traditional recipes for visitors to sample and, as ever, were keen to share lots of interesting history. After our tour of the mansion, well the little bits we were allowed in, we had a good walk In the lovely grounds, picnicked in the shade of a huge and aged oak tree and then a walk round the gorgeous walled garden, plenty of bees there but I didn't see one butterfly?
After a lovely day it was good to be home and enjoy some cold drinks in the garden.
