Neighbourhood watch
Took a few pics this morning of the (posing) spider monkeys and the (too fast) hummingbirds. Once this guy had shaken a few branches to show how strong he is, he was happy to carry on with eating fruit and swinging through the trees.
First stop this morning was a delightful French bakery in our village (Bullet Tree) for cinnamon rolls and sourdough. Then off down tarmac roads (until the last five miles or so) to the Barton Creek cave - a long flooded limestone cave used by the Mayans. Very interesting tour in canoes - though we opted out of the last couple of hundred feet - which required going under a stretch with one foot clearance.
There were two ways to the cave - the one we used which meant fording a couple of rivers - and a second one that was described as ‘difficult’. We asked where we could get lunch, and our guide motioned up the road and said the village was a couple of minutes. More like 30 minutes, including a very tense ten minute stretch of a rough, loose rock track switchbacking up a very steep valley. Even Mr B was intimidated - but once you’ve started, there’s no turning back!
Fried chicken for lunch, in a downpour, then off to Big Rock Falls for swimming (Mr B) and paddling (me). Very strenuous and hot walk back to the car, and I wasn’t feeling so great after that.
