THE LONELINESS OF THE LONG DISTANCE BIRDER
A Rock Thrush at Spurn. Oh no there wasn't. But it was a pleasant day out, I think I even caught a bit of sun, or was it wind burn. Someone mentioned that they'd never seen so many people at Spurn, and so few birds. Aye, they were right there. So it was a mammoth tsk from G for missing the rarity, but we did see Yellow Wagtails, Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat and Avocet.
And speaking of mammoths, I stroked a Mammoth's tusk and held it in my hands, though I hasten to add it was not attached to the beast, just something that had been washed up on the shore. It looked like a beautifully patterned and coloured log. In fact had I not asked the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust warden what it was, I would have thought it was a log.
