Greater Waterboatman (Notonecta glauca)

Now known as the Common back swimmer as the lesser Waterboatman swims on it's front !
Unlike yesterday's pond skater blip, the waterboatman is as happy on the surface or swimming below . Be careful if you handle these when pond dipping as they can give a nasty nip it ! No surprise as it is a voracious predator hunting many smaller invertebrates, tadpoles and small fish.
Had a go at putting make up on today for a vampire character I want to do at the Steampunk festival , daughter thought it was OK so ventured out to our local weekly meet , seemed to down OK there as well :-)
