Hoppe!
Copenhagen, Day 6.
Firstly, a big “Thank you!” (or “Tak!” since I’m still in Denmark) for all the love on my Blip Day. You’re very kind and generous. It’s such a pleasure to be part of this community, albeit in a very part-time capacity, and I continue to appreciate you all!
The weather was gorgeous today so we walked north along the Christianshavn Canal up to Refshaleøen, the former shipyard area which now houses the Copenhagen Contemporary art gallery, to see the ‘Light and Space’ exhibition https://copenhagencontemporary.org
The gallery is housed in a former welding hall and bears some similarities to the Tate Modern’s former life as a power station. We loved it!
We also loved the Reffen Street Food Market, which is right next door to the gallery and is apparently Europe’s largest https://reffen.dk We stopped there for lunch and had a sit-down on the harbour wall, which serves as a sort of ‘beach’ with deckchairs overlooking the harbour, right opposite the Little Mermaid statue (which we completely forgot to look for!).
The sun had brought the crowds out, and we found two deckchairs just in the nick of time to see this chap jump into the harbour for a dip. You can see the dome of Frederiks Kirke across the harbour just behind the Amalienborg palace, home to the Danish royal family.
En route to the Copenhagen Contemporary we’d stopped immediately across the water from the palace to pop into the magnificent Opera House, which was built about 20 years ago and has a very striking canopy roof, interior and lighting. I’ve added some Extra shots of all aspects of our day out.
Another excellent day!
