Let Glasgow Flourish
A good wedding vow party last night, so a rather slow start to the day today! Into Glasgow to meet a friend for lunch at John's favourite haunt - Sarti's italian restaurant in the city centre - he always has the seafood spaghetti, which comes will all manner of crustaceans, whatever they have, and nearly always a tiny octupus - that he doesn't eat. I had a very good pizza with thinly sliced wild boar on it, followed by bread and butter pudding made with pannetone. yum.
We parked high up on the multi storey car park with a good view of the top of this magnificent red sandstone building - sadly it is not flourishing, it is empty and to let. If you look closely, or press L and go large, at the pediment on the right you can see some symbols. These are the symbols from the Glasgow Coat of Arms and are: a tree, a bird, a salmon with a ring in its mouth and a bell. All are connected with St Mungo (or St Kentigern), the city's patron saint and all have legends surrounding them. anyone interested can find the stories here
The city motto "Let Glasgow Flourish" is a curtailment of the text inscribed on the bell of the Tron Church cast in 1631 - "Lord let Glasgow flourish through the preaching of thy word and praising thy name". rather appropriate for a Sunday!!!
A quiet evening and an early night for us. hope everyone has had a good weekend
