Shrivelled
A dried out rudbeckia in the garden. They usually last for weeks but this year’s heat and dry spell have seen them off a bit faster than usual.
There was a woman on the radio this morning talking about how good the weather is for bees. They love it, she said and are busy gathering nectar from all the wild flowers. I was amazed because I’ve hardly seen a bee for weeks and the few flowers we have are covered in flies, hoverflies wasps, the odd bumble bee but not honey bees. There are hardly even any wild flowers out in the brown scorched countryside.
Maybe she’s on a different planet I thought. But any way apparently she was in Yorkshire. Not quite a different planet then, although I think they think they’re in a different country up there!
