Another really hot day today, about 32C, and tomorrow is even hotter! Walking in the woods with Xena is much cooler than anywhere else, the woodland floor is not hot on her paws and there is plenty of shade. Today we went to one of the larger ponds and there were many dogs swimming in there - there was also dogs trying to swim in the dried up little streams which have a couple of inches of water, the dogs were covered in that smelly black mud - thank goodness Xena does not swim and was not tempted to go in them, as those dogs were so filthy and smelly.
I had an appointment with the hygienist followed by one with the dentist today, all good and my teeth and nice and clean now, although my bank account is a lot lighter!
I went to the garden centre to buy something, the staff were frantically trying to water all the plants to save them from dying in the heat. I realised that we are not subject to a hosepipe ban from tomorrow as many areas around us are, as we fall under SES Water (and not Thames Water as I initially thought, they were the providers at our old house which is only a few miles away) SES Water say a hosepipe ban is not necessary yet as most of their water supply comes from aquifers stored underground, and so they have not been losing water through evaporation from reservoirs as other providers have. But of course we still have to be careful and use water sparingly where we can.
I put water out for the birds, and a neighbour said she had a badger trying to drink from her birdbath in the middle of the day, you know how desperate that poor badger must be to be out in the middle of the day, as it is a nocturnal animal.
Tomorrow Xena is meant to be going out with P the dog walker, but it has been cancelled as it is too hot, temperatures expected to be 34C tomorrow. Saturday is going to be the hottest day of the week, and we have a function on that evening - I will have to rethink my outfit!
