Roman bath bouse
In Welwyn Garden City of all places! Was discovered by a local archeologist in 1960 when he found Roman tiles protruding from the bank of a river. Took a team of amateurs 10 years to excavate and save the site before it was lost to the A1 which was under construction during this period. There were 4 buildings in total and only this, the bath house has been preserved, the rest is history, pun intended.
The advanced technology on display here is amazing, underfloor heating, a sauna, a bit bath, a warm room and a plunge pool. There locals meanwhile were living in huts and and picking live off each other :-)
