Candide
Another stunning sunny day, not a cloud in the sky and up to 27degrees which is plenty thank you! N’s birthday, so we had some chat and presents early on, and I realised too late that my Bodypump class was due to finish, not start, at 10am so I missed it…annoying! Instead I did some quick shopping then washed all the floors and tidied up before heading over across the Meadows to meet A&N at the Black Ivy for brunch after their time at the driving range. Chatted about previous birthdays and playing golf, then I bought some cards to send and walked down to town to get my nails done (extra…went for a mix of ice cream colours for a change). Arrived early so sat outside a pub in the sun with a long cold drink chatting to T on his way home from a gardening job….he was roasting alive in his van without a/c and looking forward to a cold shower. Talking about P and our chats recently with the physio who’s been assessing what support he needs….weighing up options.
Dashed back across town again to make up a picnic supper ready for when S arrived, and after sorting Paisley we set off for a long busy drive to Glasgow to see an outdoor immersive Candide performance. Bonkers plot (so what’s new in opera?!) but fabulous to be walking around in amongst the chorus and soloists, dodging the moving staging (singing on an inflatable crocodile anyone?!) and sitting eating our picnic in parts too. Everyone was having fun, there were lots of smiles and a much younger and more diverse crowd (both in the chorus and the audience) than a usual opera evening. Chatted to the Director at the break and he was also responsible for the Rusalka I saw the other night…wow!
Such a mad great evening. Shame the M8 was such a mess and closed on the way home, but we made it in the end and just went straight to bed. What a riot.
