Dry, dry, dry
The "good" weather continues and the ground is very dry. The grass is still green and most of the plants seem to be okay but others were showing signs of dehydration. The same potatoes as earlier once more keeled over as they sucked up the last of the moisture.
It's nothing like the southern European drought, or even the English one, but my potatoes don't know that!
So despite the lurghy I decided to spread some water, albeit slowly and mostly carrying one watering can rather than two. We have 6 water butts and over a couple of hours I emptied three of them completely and took a bit from each of the three others. My experience is that if you are going to give water in these situations you need to give a real lot, a good soaking is required, not a splash of moisture on the top surface…
While I was doing that Jan was cutting the lower lawn, a big job out there in the sun. It's a while since it was done and the grass was quite long. We both finished at the same time and collapsed in the shade, Jan because she'd done a lot of work, and me because the lurghy won't let me do more. After cold drinks, a cup of tea, and a shower we went for a rest in the sunny part of the garden. Jan was in the hammock and I was on a lounger; (the other hammock was in the shade.) I was rather taken with the black strap and yellow hammock against the blue sky.
I would have slept but Jan insisted on talking to me, and on me replying! It reminded me that when she was a bored child she would poke her (sleeping) baby brother so something would happen.
Dave, I laughed at that story but now I sympathise!!
The sky is fairly clear and has just about got dark so I may go out and look for the Perseids meteor shower.
