St Drostan's bellcote

The magnificent pedimented bellcote of Old St Drostan's Church. Insch is situated atop the tall west gable which is all that remains of the 18th century building. (See extra)It is held proudly aloft - a landmark above the nearby trees.

The bellcote is dated 1613, when a new kirk may have been built. and has the initials M.l.L - for the minister at that time Magister Johannes Logie. The red sandstone is ornately carved with elaborate finials and beading.
