Fore!

I was about to ride into Bristol for the final evening ascent at the Bristol Balloon Festival - the only evening ascent of the festival - when Twitter popped up helpfully to tell me it was called off because of intolerable heat, fire risk and turbulent winds.

So that's just one successful morning ascent so far... and it all ends tomorrow. I know everything's in chaos at the moment, but perhaps peak summer isn't the time for a balloon festival (it's been said before, I know). Still, I'm sure everyone got the chance to pay for their car parking. ;-)

I had a successful ride on Ruby this morning, before it got hot (ok, hotter). Nearly twenty miles out to the old Berkeley nuclear plant (now decommissioned) and back via Wotton in just over the hour. The rest of the day was too hot to do anything so... cricket on the green it is.

I think this is one of our lads. I rather enjoyed his swing (and his red boots!), and although you can see the seemingly still ball it's actually had a damned good thrashing and it's on its way across the field. The shot it taken from my study window.

So... just one more chance to get up at five to see the balloons. What are the chances?
