Jersey tiger moth?
A busy morning getting stuff done left us time to head down to the coast at Hythe in search of cooling breezes in another hit, hot day.
The town its self was as warm as anywhere. We managed to find a shady awning for a coffee then walked along equally warm streets to the seafront where a brisk northerly breeze helped moderate the temperature.
We’ve never seen Hythe beach so busy. It’s usually the domain of fishermen give that it’s a flinty pebbly beach. Lots of people cooling off in the water.
We came back some of the way along the Royal Military Canal which was a good decision to start with as Susan spotted this moth which she first thought was a butterfly. Without much hope of success I took a few shots to try and identify it. I was pleasantly surprised in the circumstances.
The sun was too warm and the breeze none existent along the canal so we retraced our steps to the seafront for the last mile or so back to the car. Still over 30c outside now as we sip our aperitifs.
