Art and Hart

Woke to the haar still clinging on but set off early and by the time we’d crossed the bridge the day had started to brighten. Stopped at Bowhouse (first time I’ve managed to get here on one of their market weekends) for a wander and some coffee and a bacon roll.Lovely place with some interesting stalls (who knew pepper and spices could have flavours like that?!), and I bought some venison, a spiced fruit loaf and a Gallus Glass fish to hang at my kitchen window (we mentioned you to her Winsford!)
Onward to Pittenweem by which time the sun was fully out and the day was hotting up. We had a lovely wander through all the various exhibitions and studios, including G’s of course, and I bought a lovely tile of a mother making apple cake with her children (extra). S bought 3 abstract paintings, two still to frame for her kitchen and one monochrome for her sitting room. We had a quiche and salad lunch and a sit by the shore enjoying the gorgeous weather and the sea air, perhaps more so as we’re forecast to be getting rain soon and this unbroken sunny period isn’t due to last. Mind you I’m glad it wasn’t the 35 degree heat that T&Kt were coping with at Tommy G’s wedding down south. T was best man and trussed up in a 3 piece suit so must have been boiled!
Stayed til 5pm when everyone was packing up, and headed home to catch up with A&N and compare notes on our days, eat some of the fruit loaf and drink a fresh strawberry daiquiri/beer. After that quick turnaround we dashed down to see The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart in the Playfair library (extra). I’d been annoyed not to see this when it was first on at the Lyceum and it was fabulous. A total riot, very cleverly and brilliantly performed and a perfect location for the play since Hell (which didn’t seem that awful!) was portrayed as an enormous library somehow contained within a bungalow B&B in Kelso! First show I’ve been to where they bring round sandwiches in the interval too! On the way down the stairs at the end I spotted a new woman’s portrait (extra) amongst the male pale stale ones …….turned out it was of Prudencia Hart and a part of the show….clever stuff!
Home for a last cup of tea and we watched (part of) a programme about the history of the fringe which was good…especially when I spotted myself amongst an audience (extra)!
Great day
