Our garden in August
Our garden is still very colourful. Hanulli is watering the plants almost every morning. It is good for our eyes, but it is also good for the many animals in our garden.
The wild fire I reported about yesterday is now more or less under control (but will be extinguished not before end of the week). It took the 2.000 emergency responders until late this afternoon. This enormous big team is now lead by a military brigadier (one-star general). Not only because also the military was helping with manpower and material, but also because this general is used to leading such a big team.
Two police helicopters and one military helicopter were used. The military one could carry far more water; it flew between a quarry pond 10km away and the fire until a pipeline between this pond and the fire workers was created (two fire brigades in South-Hessia have a high-performance conveyor system). Farmers came with slurry tanks and a company provided tankers.
The fire destroyed 25ha (61acres) of forest. 7 fire workers were injured, 20 others had health issues due to stress and heat.
PS: during the night only 550 persons were in action (not all at the same time, would be too crowded and too exhausting).
